HESSE FLATOW is pleased to participate in Intersect Aspen with presentations of works by Matt Kleberg and Carl D'Alvia.
Matt Kleberg's paintings often resemble architectural facades, altarpieces, and vacated prosceniums. He is interested in negotiating between the internal logic of the image with the physical edges of the support, whether that's a conventionally rectangular painting or a shaped canvas. The scale of his paintings address the viewer as a body in a place, and oscillate between an open invitation and barrier.
Carl D’Alvia's post-pop resin, bronze and marble sculptures range from the abstract and geometric to the figurative and anthropomorphic. The work often explores dichotomies such as minimal/ornate, industrial/handmade, and comic/tragic.
