Francine Tint

Resumen

Francine Tint is a New York-based painter whose career spans over five decades. Known for her powerful commitment to postwar American abstraction, Tint creates works that combine bold, intuitive gesture with a distinctive and often unexpected sense of colour. Ranging in scale from intimate compositions to monumental canvases nearly 20 feet in width, her paintings channel an immediate and emotionally resonant energy through sweeping, layered brushwork, at times lyrical and fluid, at others raw and rapid. She has developed a visual language that brings together the expansive chromatics of Color Field painting with the gestural force of Abstract Expressionism.

Francine Tint (b.1943, New York, NY) studied painting at Pratt Institute and the New York Studio School. She began her career in costume and fashion design, collaborating with clients such as David Bowie and Ridley Scott, and later dedicated herself fully to painting. Tint’s work has been widely exhibited in the United States and abroad and is included in the permanent collections of more than 30 public institutions, including the Neuberger Museum of Art, New York; the Heckscher Museum of Art, New York; the Portland Museum of Art (Clement Greenberg Collection), Portland; and the El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso, TX. She has received grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation. Tint’s work has been documented in the monograph Francine Tint: Paintings, now held in the library collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, the New York Public Library, LACMA, and the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as in Panoramic View: Portrait of the Artist Francine Tint, a documentary film by award-winning filmmaker Pola Rapaport. She continues to live, paint, and teach in New York City.
