Please join us for an artist talk between Alyssa Klauer, and curator Marissa Del Toro, Saturday, March 1st at 2pm. Alyssa Klauer's solo exhibition "The Dreamers" is currently on view at the gallery's Tribeca location through March 15th.
Alyssa Klauer is a painter based in Brooklyn, New York. She received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2017 and her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2019. She has been awarded the TOY Foundation Fellowship alongside the NXTHVN Studio Fellowship, and was nominated for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland Toby’s Prize. In addition to being written about in The New York Times, Vogue and New American Paintings, her work has been exhibited at venues such as Sean Kelly Gallery, New York; Fredericks & Freiser, New York; and the Museum of Museums, Seattle. Her work meditates on “Queer Time,” the idea that Queer individuals often experience a delayed or second adolescence when encountering time-bending experiences such as coming out later in life.
Marissa Del Toro is Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Programs at NXTHVN in New Haven, CT. Since 2021, Del Toro has also worked with Museums Moving Forward, a data-driven initiative to support greater equity and accountability in art museum workplaces Previously, she served as 2021-2022 Curatorial Fellow at NXTHVN and as the 2018-2020 Diversifying Art Museum Leadership Initiative (DAMLI) Curatorial Fellow at Phoenix Art Museum. She holds her MA in Art History from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and is originally from Southern California, where she received her BA in Art History from the University of California, Riverside.
