The Chan Gallery of Pomona College is pleased to announce Painting: New Approaches, an exhibition synthesizing current and emerging voices throughout the United States. Artists featured in the exhibition present new conceptual and material attitudes toward a highly traditional, historically rich medium. They wrangle with the legacies of painting by embracing the body, abstraction, and the materiality of the medium itself. Hung salon-style, in a nod to the established, academic mode of displaying paintings, the exhibition offers a rich exploration of critical, counter-hegemonic practices that play with the medium and its many possibilities for interpretation and representation.
