HESSE FLATOW Now Represents Emily Harter

HESSE FLATOW is proud to announce the representation of Bay Area artist Emily Harter!

Emily Harter will be presenting her second solo show with the gallery this October and the gallery will also be presenting her work at Minor Attractions in London the same week.

Emily Harter (b.1997, Baltimore MD) is an interdisciplinary artist based in San Francisco, CA. Influenced by convergent backgrounds in painting, printmaking, and art history, her work depicts worlds populated by hedonistic shape-shifters and ruled by cartoon logic. Drawing from a wide array of references, including Netherlandish genre painting, the satirical prints of Hogarth and Daumier, and the Golden Age of American cartoons, she aims to interrogate identity, obligation, and that ol’ horizon of desire.

Harter received her BA from Oberlin College her MFA in Art Practice from Stanford University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including HESSE FLATOW, New York; Ochi Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Bread and Salt, San Diego, CA; and Cleaner Gallery, Chicago, IL. She was the recipient of the 2020 MAPC Travel Grant and has been a resident artist at Lighthouse Works, Fishers Island, NY; Arts, Letters, and Numbers, Averill Park, NY, After 1920, San Diego, CA, and most recently The American Austrian Foundation Residency in Salzburg, Austria. She is a co-founder of Pigeon Hole Press in Chicago, IL, which produces and publishes fine art intaglio prints.
